Read MoreThree Reasons to support Discover Color
I’ve spent a lot of my time on social media lately asking people to donate their hard-earned cash to Discover Color. From where I sit this morning, I give us a 50/50 shot at crossing the finish the line on our goal of $5,000. I know lots of people have visited the kickstarter page. But why haven’t those visits translated to donations? The honest answer is I don’t know. But here’s what I do know. Three Reasons to Donate to Discover Color:
1. You love design. Color is integral to the spaces, experiences and software we design. Color was once a static medium. One could have color light but generally speaking the means of changing that color was difficult and in retail or commercial applications they were rare.
But today, we with the advent of color changing LED at reasonable price points we can change color at will. Understanding that power through a designed project could be a tremendous tool.
2. You love lighting.
3. You love color.
Spent the morning updating tumblr and buffer and facebook and kickstarter spreading the word about Discover Color. We’re so close to our goal. Let’s get there together!
Abstract Photographs by Akihiko Miyoushi
Sometimes, one of the best ways to appreciate the importance of color is to completely remove it. Take the two photos here. In these frames you can see how the neon signs lose their power when the vivid color is removed. In fact, as you look at the black and white frames, you can almost feel the color coming through. It’s like our eyes want to see it.
Some of the many ways I’ve tried to Discover Color in my lighting design practice.
