Part of BlogTour London is an event called the London Night Hike. It's a 10 or 20 mile hike through London (as night as the name implies) visiting a number of architectural sites. The event is meant to raise awareness and monetary support for Maggie's Centres. Located throughout the UK, Maggie's provides emotional, psychological and physical support for cancer patients, their friends and their families.
Maggie’s Centres are for anyone affected by cancer. They are places where people are welcome whenever they need us – from just being diagnosed, or undergoing treatment, to post-treatment, recurrence, end of life or in bereavement.
We also welcome family and friends, as they are often deeply affected by cancer too. We know that those who love and look after someone with cancer can feel just as frightened, vulnerable and uncertain.
Everyone I know has been touched by cancer in some way, whether it's personally, through a family member or a close friend. For anyone that's had to endure cancer, even if you're not the primary victim, you know that the emotional and psychological toll the disease takes is just as exacting as the physical one. Maggie's seek's to help that by providing beautifully designed spaces and services to help patients and their loved ones cope with all the phases of cancer.
I'll be hiking through London, first of all to help Maggie's, secondly for the selfish reason that I get to see this beautiful city at night. As part of my hike, I'm raising funds for Maggie's and I need your help. Just head to my Just Giving page and please donate whatever you can to help Maggies continue their mission. I'll be doing more than just walking along. I'll be posting photos of the hike via instagram, twitter and tumblr with the hashtag #LDNightHike so you can see what it's like along our route.
Thank you all in advance for your support. It's a tremendous cause and I'm so proud to be a small part of it.
