My blog - here is where I talk about the latest in lighting design and how to make it work for you.

Lighting for Joseph Abboud Showroom

I am very fortunate you have a relationship with the fashion label Joseph Abboud. I was recently asked to light their showroom for Market Week and while I can't share everything (some of the items have yet to make their public debut), I wanted to share some photos.

When set out to light the showroom I wrote a blog post on the challenges that faced the room.

This first is creating contrast. The room is filled with natural light, but the windows actually backlight the clothes and mannequins. Lighting these pieces while maintaining adequate contrast will be a challenge.

The second is color. With all the cool sunlight pouring in the instinct is to match that tone with our key lights, but that cool tone might not bring out the richness in the collection (which I haven't seen yet).

So how did we address these challenges? Simplicity ruled the day by using a combination of theatrical spot and wash lights as well as existing track lights we were able to give the showroom items sufficient "pop." The trickier problem was color. We ended up color correcting with cool gel to compliment some of the items, while allowing the warm halogen sources to boost the natural palette of other items.

Ultimately, I think the client was satisfied. Soon enough I'll be able to post a complete album with photos of all the showroom items. Until then take a look at the photos above. Here's what the client had to say...
